Our Guiding Principles

These principles help deliver the most effective execution for critical business initiatives, having been honed over years of successful engagements.

Bias for Action

We never have perfect information; we may often only have 10% of the information we want. Even so, it is better to act quickly with the data we have than to do nothing.

A bias for action allows organizations to move fast. Speed matters when seizing opportunities, innovating, and embracing change.

This approach also allows us to change our approach to failure. If we invest too much in an initiative and it doesn’t pan out, there can be dire consequences. If we embrace a cycle of hypothesis testing, failing fast, and iterating towards success, we can turn the tables; failure becomes a valuable tool that some of our competitors ignore.

“The better is the mortal enemy of the good”

-Montesquieu

Driven by Business

We believe that any technology decisions should be based on the constant and evolving need to create value for customers and employees. Habits, culture, trends, priorities, preferences, and markets are constantly changing; organizations must continually re-evaluate these conditions and transform their business, services, products, and technology to continue to drive customer value.

Whether you are honing core offerings or bringing novel products to market, innovation is not a luxury; it is a necessity in sharpening your competitive advantage so your business can survive and thrive another day.

IT as an Enabler

When done correctly, IT is not a cost center but an enabler for the business. Here are some examples of how IT can enable your business:

  • Releasing a newly supported product or offering through software.
  • Increasing efficiency of business processes through automation, thereby increasing margins and freeing up people to do more meaningful work.
  • Improving customer experience, satisfaction, and enthusiasm through better usability and useful features. Change your customer’s opinion from “its good enough” to “it’s awesome, you should use it too!”

Observable & Measurable

We believe IT should be observable and measurable, from both a business and technical perspective. The financial impact of IT decisions should be clear so that a business case can be made for everything IT does.

Likewise, we should understand how our systems are being used so we can better understand the customer and make more informed strategic decisions.

We must also have data on how our technical systems are behaving so we can more effectively triage and eliminate issues, bugs, and performance issues, allowing us to provide a stronger product with higher user satisfaction.

Give yourself an accurate picture of your data to make informed financial decisions.
